Pregnancy brings many changes to a woman's body, mind, and emotions, which is why yoga during this time needs to be approached with care and understanding. This yoga teacher training program at Adi Yoga Ashram is designed to help students understand the many changes a woman experiences on her journey into motherhood, from preconception through pregnancy and beyond childbirth. Whether you are a yoga teacher wishing to support pregnant students in your class or a healthcare professional seeking complementary knowledge, or on a personal level preparing for motherhood, our program provides valuable insight into all the necessary needs of women during these important life stages.

During the training, students learn about the different stages of pregnancy, including fetal development, changes that occur throughout each trimester, safe yoga practices for every stage, childbirth preparation, postnatal recovery, and how yoga can support the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of both mother and baby. Along the way, students learn how to safely modify yoga practices as the body changes during pregnancy, including adjustments to postures, breathing practices, relaxation techniques, meditation, and teaching approaches.

Other than the practical aspects, students learn about the common pregnancy-related conditions, precautions, emotional well-being, and the responsibilities of a prenatal yoga teacher. By the end of the course, the students gain the knowledge and confidence needed to safely design and teach prenatal and postnatal yoga classes while offering knowledge and compassionate support to women throughout their pregnancy journey.

As part of the training, students are also introduced to the traditional Indian concept of Garbh Sanskar, which explores how a mother's thoughts, emotions, lifestyle, and environment may influence her pregnancy experience. The course looks at both traditional and modern approaches, which help students understand why this subject continues to be valued by so many families even today.

By the end of the program, students will have a well-rounded understanding of pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal recovery. They will learn how to create safe and supportive prenatal and postnatal yoga classes, make appropriate modifications, and adapt practices according to the changing needs of women throughout different stages of motherhood.

The training is taught by experienced instructors of Adi Yoag Ashram with backgrounds in yoga, anatomy, women's health, and childbirth education. By combining multiple aspects such as theory, practical sessions, observation, and teaching practice, students gain a variety of knowledge that can be confidently applied in real teaching situations.

Whether you plan to teach prenatal yoga as a teacher and support women through pregnancy as a , or simply gain a deeper understanding of the journey into motherhood, this training offers a strong foundation of knowledge and practical skills. It offers valuable knowledge that can be used both professionally and personally while helping create safer and more supportive experiences for mothers and their babies.

Covers Changes of Pregnancy

  • Many people think pregnancy is only about the growth and development of the baby, but there is much more happening during all three trimesters. Learning about these changes is equally important because the same yoga practice may not be suitable throughout pregnancy. The woman's body changes from trimester to trimester; the practice must also change as well. while keeping that in mind, during the classes, we try to cover the physical and physiological changes that occur during the different phases of pregnancy. Our goal here is not to teach students complicated postures but to teach them what is safe, supportive, and beneficial during each stage of pregnancy.

Emotional Support Importance

  • Pregnancy is an exciting and beautiful experience for families and mothers, but it certainly comes with its own challenges. While much of the attention is naturally placed on the wellbeing of the baby, it is equally important to see what the mother is experiencing physically, mentally, and emotionally throughout this journey. Our approach for this program is holistic, so we make sure that students not only learn about asana but also understand and learn about the emotional aspects of pregnancy as well. During the classes, we cover a variety of breathing techniques, relaxation methods, meditation practices and other supportive tools that can help create a sense of calm and comfort while providing a nurturing environment for mothers throughout pregnancy.

Fourth Trimester Focused

  • Learning about the three trimesters is not the end of learning; you might think the healthy child's birth would be the end of all, but this is not the case. As the postnatal care is also a really important part of the whole journey, our course also explores the postnatal section and the challenges that come with it. In this section, students learn about recovery of the body, rebuilding strength, and adapting yoga practices to accommodate the needs of new mothers post-birth.

Practice Practice & Practice

  • While covering the theoretical part, students spend time applying what they learn through practical sessions, observation, and teaching practice. This way, students learn how to modify classes for different stages of pregnancy, work with common pregnancy-related concerns, and create a safe prenatal yoga session for their students. As the hands on learning is the best way to build confidence and prepare yourself for real teaching situations.

Most participants are yoga teachers, healthcare professionals, doulas, or students interested in prenatal yoga. Pregnancy requires ongoing individual care and attention, so this course is focused on learning and teaching rather than fulfilling the needs as a yoga program for pregnant women.
